SUPPORT SEARCHING

Searching Hello Yello!

Contents

Using the Search Box TOC

All public pages on Hello Yello contain a search box in the top right of the page. The search box has two fields for searching:

Business / Category

This field can be used to search for a business name and/or a category.

The search results will be the listings where each word in the search is present in either business name, main category, or one of the keywords selected by the business when it was registered on Hello Yello!

Location / Postcode

With this field you can limit your search to one or more geographic areas.

A search for johannesburg will only give results from Johannesburg, while a search for johannesburg pretoria will give results from both Johannesburg and Pretoria.

This type of search however, can give unexpected results. A search for cape town will for instance not only give results from Cape Town, but also from all other locations in which cape or town is a part of the name.

To avoid these unwanted search results, you can enclose the location in double quotation marks like this: "cape town". Now you will only get results from Cape Town.

You can also use one or more postcodes for searches. A search for 3880 will this way only give results from the area with postcode 3880, while a search for 3880 3910 will give results from both the area with postcode 3880 and the area with postcode 3910.

Finally you can mix all types of location searches and for instance search for empangeni "richards bay" 3935.

Notice!

All searches are case insensitive.

Below the search fields you can save your location by checking the box "Save as default location". The location will then be saved in a cookie on your computer until you again visit Hello Yello!

Using Advanced Search TOC

To make more detailed searches you can use Hello Yello's "Advanced Search" form.

To enter the form click the "Advanced Search" link below the "Search" button in the search box in the top right of all Hello Yello pages.

The form is divided into four search sections:

  • Business Name / Address, where you can make searches for business name and specific address fields.
  • Category, where you can make searches within a main category and/or subcategories (Keywords provided by the business when it registered on Hello Yello!)
  • Phone Numbers & Internet, where you can search for phone numbers, email addresses and/or web addresses.
  • Business Description, where you can search for words and/or phrases in the business descriptions.

In order to appear in the search result, a listing must fulfil all search criteria filled in the form.

The "Search" buttons placed to the right after the three first sections searches all fields in the form, and is just placed to save you the trouble of scrolling down to the button of the page.

The fields in the search form are marked with a small icon like this . By placing the mouse cursor over one of these icons you will get help to the relevant field.

Notice!

Internet Explorer 6 has an annoying "bug" which means that dropdown menus always are placed on top of other content (See screenshot). We strongly recommend that you upgrade to Internet Explorer 7 (requires Windows XP Service Pack 2) or Firefox which both are far better browsers than Internet Explorer 6.
